At Night At The Black Beach 

Abominable weather in the middle of the night at the black beach of Jökulsárlón, Iceland. Actually the best time to photograph the icebergs ... IF you can handle the rain drops on your lens.

Greenland Sunrise 

Another early morning in Greenland, another majestic sunrise. Kudos again to the captain of our small boat who moved his ship just so that we could get the composition we envisioned.

Ice. Berg. 

Berg is the German word for mountain. The English simply took over the word 'iceberg' from the German 'Eisberg' which literally means ice-mountain. Now, here you have all three: Ice, mountains and icebergs, all peacefully together in the misty Greenland haze.

Burning Icebergs 

The sun came out underneath this cloud blanket for just a brief moment before it set behind the mountains at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, lighting up the icebergs like fire. 

Serenity 

One of the very few summer nights with clear skies in Iceland. The sun has vanished behind the horizon for two or three hours but it's never really getting dark. Everything is very still and the water in Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon shows how clear it really is (the stones in the foreground are all under water). Even the icebergs refrained from moving. A moment of purest tranquility like you can only experience in the arctic.

The Giant 

A giant iceberg greeting the sun on an early morning in Eastern Greenland. Not one of my ultra-wide images for a change... sometimes even I take out the 200 mm.

The Aliens Have Arrived 

Bizarre iceberg glowing in the morning sun at the black beach of Jokulsarlon, Iceland. It almost looks like a crash-landed alien spaceship...

Fire & Ice 

Some of the sunrises we had in Greenland were simply mind blowing. It was just a matter of getting up early to be ready at the right time and the right place. Well... actually only the right time would be enough, the place is basically always right, wherever you are in Greenland.

Icy River 

Severe winter way up north in Northern Norway. Don't worry if you start feeling a bit chilly while looking at this... it's sort of what I intended.

15 Seconds at Jökulsárlón 

Sunset at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The clouds arranged themselves to provide the perfect leading lines - complete with their own reflections in the smooth water. Couldn't have asked for more.

Scoresbysund Morning Light 

Scoresbysund in East-Greenland is one of the largest and longest fjord systems in the world. It is a very remote area. We were cruising through it with a small sail ship. During our week long trip we have been treated to some spectacular sunrises. That's one of them.

Towards the Light! 

Looks like the icebergs are dragged towards the light in this really bad weather at Jokulsarlon Black Beach. But only for the camera with a long exposure. For the human eye, there wasn't much light at all during that night.

Good Morning Greenland! 

A beautiful arching iceberg gleaming in the early morning sun. This area is called Bear Islands because of the polar bears often seen here.  

Getting Close 

See the small boat on the left? I spent a whole week on this small boat together with 11 (!) more people, cruising along the east coast of Greenland in total wilderness and far away from ANY signs of civilization. All that effort to get images like this. Kudos to the captain and the crew who really knew how to handle their boat and got us closer to the action than you would ever get on a normal cruise ship! 

A Sunset In Greenland 

A majestic iceberg and a dramatic sunset. During our time in Greenland we were blessed with really great weather. Some of the sunsets and sunrises were simply otherworldly. And even if the sun set around 11 pm and came back around 3 am: we missed none of them! Sleep could wait until back home. 

Norwegian Chill 

Something extra chilly from Norwegian Winter - complete with an artsy sculpture on the 'cornerstone' of the small village on the left. 

Pink Black Beach 

During this one night at Jokulsarlon black beach in Iceland, about an hour before sunrise, the clouds and the sky looked almost like on a tropical island. The icebergs in front, however, quickly corrected that illusion.

Once In A Lifetime 

Midsummer in Iceland. We didn't have the best conditions most of the time. But there was this one night when the sunset was just crazy. And we happened to be just at the right place at that time: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Not only did we have this amazing sunset, but also there was this fantastic cloud formation, lit up in pink and orange by the low sun, AND those illuminated clouds reflected perfectly in the still water of the lagoon, AND some of the icebergs lit up like burning crystals. That you are so totally at the right place at the right time doesn't happen very often. Maybe only once in a lifetime.

Iceberg Sunrise 

A huge long iceberg floating majestically in front of the rising summer sun in Eastern Greenland. You have to get up very early to see light like this - or not go to bed at all. The time here was 01:22 AM.

A Sense of Calm

After a snowstorm which painted all the trees white on one side, calmness returned to the forest.  

Totally Norway 

Somehow, this images, taken at Selfjorden on Lofoten Islands, summarizes Norway for me. All the reasons why I want to go back there again and again ... and again.

Glowing Crystal

Strong sunlight caught by crystal-like iceberg at Jokulsarlon, Black Beach, Island.

Arctic Alpenglow 

Just came back from an amazing trip to Northern Norway and this it how it looks like there!
